About the artist

Since childhood I have been drawn to mythology, fantasy, sci-fi, legends, fairy tails and fables, in short the history of human imagination and how it interprets and explores our world and our natures.

Iylandmuncë (iylandmuncee, island monkey, aɪɫənd məŋki ) is of course a nom de plume or ‘name of feather’ as the French might say (at least if they weren’t already using name of war in its place, aggressive lot them there across the channel, don’t let them fool you with any of that surrender monkey nonsense of theirs).

I am by nature a visual thinker and so I usually have a fairly complete idea of what I want to create already in my head, the challenge is getting what’s in my brain, out of my brain. There is joy in the making and exploring of an idea, as such I have no interest in ‘image generators’ or using ‘ai’ all my work is 100% human (as I’m totally human and not two labradors in a trench coat).

I’ve never really had or developed a style, at least not a single one, no shade on those who do have a single style, there is something to be said for developing and perfecting a look over time, it’s just thats not me.

Each style (such as they are) has its own components, challenges and requirements, and swapping between them helps keep my brain active and engaged, it helps stop me simply going on auto pilot and getting stale, it also encourages me to keep exploring new techniques and approaches to my creations.

About the site

Given the eclectic nature of my interests and styles I’ve tried to organise the work that I’ve been creating over the last #coughty# years into loose categories or genres.
