Each year I set out to create a set of 24 advent images based on a different theme, the idea is to challenge me to complete a project by a deadline while also either focusing on a specific work flow or function in blender, or conversely to instead try a whole bunch of different workflows and functionality to expand my skill base.
Over the years I’ve found that getting to the high teens of images is fairly straight forward but those last 8 or so images can be a struggle, in part as I try to stick to the more secular parts of the holiday period.
Advent 2025
Atompunk / Pulp Sci Fi
This year focused on atom punk and pulp sci fi imagery, style wise I chose to texture paint all the images, and apply a line art modifier to the objects to create outlines for the images.
Overall I’m quite happy with this years crop of images, and didn’t have to fall back too much on the easy fall backs of snowmen and gingerbread.

Snowmen
This year I was having a bit of a nostalgia binge of Calvin & Hobbs, so I decided to channel my inner Calvin to create a set of snowmen, not sure when the idea of having them all taking part in sports / games but it worked out well as I hardly any issues coming up with a full range of image concepts.

Through out this year I was building up my robot assets, so in the back of my mind I was keeping advent images in mind, so when it came time to create this years images, I already had a good range of concepts that I just had to find ways to yuleify.

Advent 2022
Cyberpunk : Slade Runner 2022
For this year I went with a cyberpunk theme, and as ‘slade runner’ might suggest one of the major influences for this year was blade runner. The elves were quite fun to make, so I kind of made a few of them, I’m also quite happy with the line backgrounds turned out.
Other highlights from this year for me are the origami rain deer, and the holograms.
Advent 2021
Pirates - Yo Ho Ho Ho
This is a set of 24 (advent) images for 2021, the theme this time is pirates, the pirate ship itself took quite some time to construct, so as you may notice I ended up using it in fair few of the images to get my moneys worth out of it.

Dinosaurs
This is a set of 24 (advent) images for 2020, the theme this time is dinosaurs, from this years batch I think the highlights for me are the raindeer-osaurus, and the krampus-osaur, the gingerbread images tend to be one of my fallbacks when struggling for ideas, but these fellas are ones I’d quite like to have in real life.

Steampunk
It all started here when I decided to challenge myself and create an 24 advent images for 2019 based (loosely on a steampunk theme), this was also a good exercise to use a wide range of processes / techniques for making things in blender. I think I’m most happy with pipe work reindeer, the steam sled and the snow globe.
